Brought my wife's car into the shop today. She had pre-booked an appointment to get a light fixed. I did not know that the light was the only thing that was discussed between her and the service department. All I know is that I was supposed to bring the car in.

I checked in with Greg. We discussed that my wife booked the appointment. He told me the things that needed to be done. Unbeknownst to me, all of the things he said needed to be done were NOT what was agreed upon between my wife and the dealership.

The most egregious thing, they did an oil change. We had an oil change 4 days ago. They would have had to have peeled the oil sticker from 4 days ago and apply their own. When I spoke with Mike (manager) he said that the technician told him he thought it was weird. Did we get a call or anything that it was weird? Nope. They did the change anyways.

The bill totalled over $1000. For the oil change, Mike did offer a refund, which has to be a cheque sent by mail (~$150).

All in all, a simple headlight, which costs $150, labour and all, turned into a $1000 trip, minus the oil change refund.

It was scummy, in particular the oil change part, and I felt taken advantage of.

We will not be going back.

Edit: In response to the dealership comment below.

One of the services also completed on our car was a coolant flush. We had this done just 9 months ago. We have reached out to other service businesses. The technician at Jenner most certainly should have been able to tell that the coolant was fine. Add this to the oil change and clearly the job is either predatory, not being honestly done or simply not done at all.

We have emailed Fred Jenner himself. He said that the records showed we have not had these services done in quite some time, so he can see why they were recommended. Which is true on both accounts. We had these services done elsewhere.

This then means the technician or technicians are not properly trained and cannot assess certain vehicle needs.

And to touch on the "miscommunication", as far as I'm concerned, it was simply lack of communication from Jenners side.

We are waiting for a reply from Fred Jenner seeking reimbursement of the coolant flush as well. I will follow up with his response.

Edit 2:
Fred Jenner has responded and offered a refund, but what he doesn't do is take any accountability for the ethical or moral responsibilities of his business. He wrote, "We rely on the customer's response to those service recommendations."

As a customer, we rely on the shop to be the experts.

Any reputable service shop would have performed the standard physical and digital tests before moving forward with work.

Forget any "miscommunication" at this point-this was wrong and deceitful.

I'm curious, is the service advisor on a commissioned based pay structure?

The Best Service offered by any car dealer. Equinox EV 2LT AWD is an amazing vehicle. I don't believe the Car and Driver rating. This car is one of the best cars I have owned. rates far above its price range. I have owned Porsches BMWs and Vettes.

Had a sudden truck problem , 2023 gmc while traveling down island to victoria , managed to get vehicle into Jenner dealership on a hope and a prayer. Richard in the service department got me in and set me up with a rental vehicle so I could continue my full day. Received call late in the day that truck was diagnosed and fixed. Same day unbelievable! They had parts on hand. Picked up truck all seamless service in the end and covered by warranty . Huge thank you to Richard you were awesome!

I trust these guys with my diesel GMC and will use them for every service. Mike the service manager (and mechanic) both saved me a lot of hassle and stress with a problem I brought to them halfway through. They had me fixed up and out of their shop within the week and saved me thousands of dollars in costly repairs. I highly recommend these guys if you’re looking for somebody reliable to work on diesel trucks.

Jenner GMC was great to deal with for our purchase. Austin handled everything with class and professionalism. We came from the mainland and everything was ready and prepared for us upon arrival. Was the most efficient purchase we have ever made. Truck was more then we could have asked for and service was exceptional. Thanks Jenner GMC!!
