2022 GMC Sierra vs. 2022 Toyota Tundra: still far ahead
February 16 2022,
For the past few years, the GMC Sierra has been gaining ground in its segment. New variants have been introduced, a new generation has been around for three years now and it seems like not a year goes by without interesting new products being offered.
At Toyota, we did things differently. They waited 15 years before revisiting the model presented in 2007. The company has a new Tundra to offer us for the year 2022. It's obvious that the new Tundra will benefit from spectacular improvements over the model it replaces, but that's not where the measure should be taken; it should be taken against the existing products in the category.
Unfortunately, this is not to Toyota's advantage. A product like the GMC Sierra is still far ahead. The following examples prove it.
The body
Toyota offers three different body sizes with its new Tundra. That's good, but that's about it. At GMC, they also offer different body sizes across the lineup, but what's interesting is that we can adapt this place to our needs.
For example, it is possible to opt for a carbon composite body to protect it from scratches and wear. The tailgate, on the other hand, can benefit from Multipro technology, which turns it into a real Swiss Army knife. It can be deployed in six different ways to help us get on board or to facilitate loading.
These are small details, but they say a lot about the attention to detail that has gone into this model.
The mechanics
The new Tundra will have two engines, which means a hybrid solution. That's good, but the choice at GMC is so vast that you get the same benefits, whether it's fuel consumption with a diesel engine or towing capacity with the latter or the choice of a 6.2-litre V6 engine.
Off-road driving
Sometimes pickup truck owners like to venture off-road. Toyota offers the TRD Pro version, which is known to be solid when it comes to getting off the beaten path.
Unfortunately for the Japanese manufacturer, GMC offers more radical solutions for those who want a little more, namely the AT4 and the new AT4X versions. For extreme capabilities and the certainty of coming back from its trips in inhospitable lands, it doesn't get much better than this.
Towing
Finally, every truck buyer is interested in the towing capacity. The higher the towing capacity, the more rugged a model shows it is. Also, a higher capacity means that all tasks are done with more ease.
With Toyota, it's a maximum of 12,000 pounds that can be towed in the back. With the GMC Sierra, the capacity is 13,000 pounds. These figures speak for themselves.
For a full-size model that will take you further in all areas, the GMC Sierra remains the most logical choice in the full-size pickup category.
