Why Is Android Auto Not Working in the 2025 Chevy Trax?

If Android Auto isn’t working correctly in a Chevy Trax, the problem may be the connection between the phone and the vehicle’s infotainment system rather than Android Auto itself. This can become particularly noticeable after replacing or upgrading a smartphone, when an existing connection or setting no longer matches the new device.

The Chevy Trax supports wireless Android Auto so that a compatible Android phone can connect without a USB cable. If Android Auto will not connect, disconnects while driving, or the infotainment system behaves unexpectedly after a phone change, try these basic checks.

How Android Auto Works in the 2025 Chevy Trax

The Chevy Trax uses its infotainment system to display compatible Android phone functions on the centre screen. This includes navigation, calls, messaging and supported media applications.

The Canadian Trax specification lists wireless Android Auto compatibility, although compatibility can depend on the phone and its software.

For a wireless connection, the phone and vehicle use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi during the connection process. Chevrolet support information specifically recommends enabling both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when troubleshooting a wireless Android Auto connection.

This means that simply seeing the phone listed under Bluetooth does not necessarily mean Android Auto is properly connected. A phone can be paired for calls and audio while Android Auto is not functioning correctly.

Why Android Auto May Stop Working After Changing Phones

One situation worth checking is a recent phone replacement. The Chevy Trax may still have information associated with the previous phone, while the new phone may have its own Android Auto and Bluetooth settings. If the two devices aren’t properly paired, the infotainment system may not start Android Auto as expected. A phone may also handle wireless Android Auto differently, depending on its software and settings.

Chevrolet recommends ensuring the phone software is current and the vehicle’s infotainment software is up to date when troubleshooting Android Auto. Therefore, if Android Auto worked with an older phone but stopped working after switching phones, checking the new phone’s software and reconnecting it from scratch is a logical first step.

How to Reconnect Android Auto in the Chevy Trax

If Android Auto won’t connect, start with a clean connection instead of repeatedly trying to pair the phone.

1. Check the phone

Make sure:

  • Bluetooth is turned on.
  • Wi-Fi is turned on.
  • The phone has an active data connection.
  • The phone’s operating system is up to date.
  • Android Auto and related applications are updated.

The phone must also be compatible with Android Auto. Chevrolet notes that functionality can vary by device.

2. Check the Trax infotainment system

With the vehicle parked, check the infotainment settings and make sure Android Auto is enabled. If the vehicle has an available software update, Chevrolet recommends checking the infotainment system’s software update section. Depending on the vehicle configuration, you can find this through Settings > System > Vehicle Software > Updates.

3. Remove the old phone connection

If the previous phone was replaced, removing the old connection can help establish a clean pairing. Use the vehicle’s settings to forget the existing phone connection. You can also remove the old vehicle connection from the phone’s Bluetooth settings. If the previous vehicle connection still appears in Android Auto on the phone, remove it there as well.

4. Restart both devices

Turn off the vehicle and the phone, then restart them. Turn off both the vehicle and phone, open and close the driver’s door, wait for the vehicle’s systems to shut down, and then restart the vehicle before attempting the Android Auto connection again. This gives the infotainment system a chance to fully restart instead of immediately trying another connection.

5. Pair the phone again

Once the old connection has been removed and both devices have restarted, pair the phone with the Chevy Trax again. For wireless Android Auto, enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the phone. Follow the prompts that appear on both the phone and the centre display. If Android Auto does not launch automatically, the Android Auto icon can be selected on the vehicle’s centre display.

What If Android Auto Is Connected but the Radio Turns On by Itself?

A different symptom can occur when the infotainment system appears to switch between Android Auto and other audio sources. In that situation, it is useful to distinguish between an Android Auto connection problem and an infotainment-system problem.

For example, if the phone connects successfully but the display or audio source changes unexpectedly, checking the Android Auto settings on the phone and the infotainment settings in the vehicle can help determine where the problem originates. Chevrolet specifically recommends checking Android Auto settings, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, software updates and the physical USB connection when applicable.

Because the Trax supports wireless Android Auto, you typically don’t need a USB cable for the wireless connection. However, some vehicles and devices may require a wired connection, so the exact behaviour depends on the equipment and phone being used.

Can a USB Connection Help Diagnose the Problem?

Yes. If wireless Android Auto is not working, testing the phone through the vehicle’s USB data connection can help separate a wireless connection issue from a broader Android Auto or infotainment problem. When using USB, Chevrolet recommends connecting the phone to the vehicle’s USB data port and using the phone manufacturer’s cable to help avoid connectivity issues.

If Android Auto works through USB but not wirelessly, that helps narrow where to focus troubleshooting.

If Android Auto doesn’t work through either method, the next step is to review the phone settings, vehicle settings, and available software updates.

What to Check Before Seeking Service

Before you have the Chevy Trax inspected, note exactly what happens when you try to connect.

Check whether:

  • The vehicle detects the phone.
  • Bluetooth connects successfully.
  • Android Auto appears on the centre display.
  • Android Auto connects but then disconnects.
  • The Android Auto icon is unavailable or greyed out.
  • The problem occurs only wirelessly.
  • The problem also occurs through USB.
  • The issue started immediately after changing phones.
  • The phone and vehicle software are up to date.

This information can make the issue easier to understand if further assistance is required. Chevrolet recommends contacting a dealership if troubleshooting doesn’t resolve the problem and advises providing details about the symptoms and the steps already attempted.

When Android Auto Should Work Normally

Once you pair and configure a compatible phone, the Chevy Trax can connect to Android Auto wirelessly through its infotainment system. Chevrolet lists wireless Android Auto compatibility as part of the Trax technology equipment.

If Android Auto suddenly stops working after replacing a phone, first check the new phone’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings, the previous vehicle pairing, Android Auto settings, and available software updates.

If the connection still fails after removing the old pairing and restarting both the phone and vehicle, the issue may require further diagnosis.

Stay Connected in Your 2025 Chevy Trax

If Android Auto is not working in the Chevy Trax, start by treating it as a connection and configuration issue. Make sure your phone supports Android Auto and has the latest updates. Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, then enable Android Auto in the vehicle.

If the problem began after changing phones, remove the old phone connection from both the Trax and the phone before pairing the new device again. A USB connection can also help determine whether the problem is specific to the wireless connection.

If Android Auto still fails after these checks, document exactly what happens during the connection to give a service technician useful information for the next step.
