2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Gets Twin-Turbo V8, Breaks 346 km/h Speed Barrier

Chevrolet has introduced the highly anticipated 2025 Corvette ZR1, marking the return of the "King of the Hill" moniker with unprecedented power and performance. This latest addition to the Corvette lineup boasts the most potent V8 ever produced by an American automaker.

Powerhouse Performance

At the heart of the new ZR1 is a 5.5-litre LT7 twin-turbocharged DOHC flat-plane crank V8 engine. This powerplant delivers an astounding 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 828 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm. Chevrolet estimates a top speed exceeding 346 km/h on the track and a quarter-mile time under 10 seconds.

Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, stated, "Corvette ZR1 is about pushing the envelope with raw power and cutting-edge innovation. From Stingray, to Z06, E-Ray, and now ZR1, the Corvette family continues to elevate with each new iteration."

Aerodynamic Advancements

The ZR1 features a carbon fibre aerodynamic package that generates over 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed. Key elements include a flow-through hood, carbon fibre side profile air ducts, and unique fresh air intake ducts.

Chassis and Suspension

Two distinct setups are available, both equipped with Magnetic Ride dampers. The standard chassis includes a carbon-fibre front splitter, rocker moldings, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The optional ZTK performance package adds an aggressive rear wing, front dive planes, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

Braking Innovation

A new braking system utilizes carbon ceramic rotors, with front rotors measuring 15.7 inches in diameter—the largest ever on a Corvette. This system allows the ZR1 to decelerate from 128-321 km/h back to 128 km/h in just 24.5 seconds.

Iconic Design Elements

The ZR1 revives the split rear window design, last seen on the C2-generation Corvette. This carbon fibre "spine" serves both aesthetic and functional purposes, aiding in heat extraction.

Interior and Customization

The cockpit features unique ZR1 badging and a new finishing stitch pattern. Customers can choose from new exterior colours like Competition Yellow and Hysteria Purple, as well as a new Habanero interior option.

Production and Availability

Chevrolet anticipates production to begin in 2025 at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky. Pricing and detailed availability information will be released closer to the production date.

The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 represents a significant milestone in the Corvette's evolution, combining unprecedented power with advanced engineering to create a world-class supercar. As it joins the Corvette family alongside the Stingray, Z06, and E-Ray, the ZR1 sets a new benchmark for American automotive performance.
