2022 Chevrolet Silverado Engine Lineup at a Glance

Today's full-size pickups are more sophisticated than ever, more powerful than ever and more capable than ever. Many of the reasons for this have to do with technology and engineering advances.

Within this category, we could include everything related to powertrains. The Chevrolet Silverado is an interesting case in point, as what may be hiding under the hood of this model is a big part of the equation. In fact, the Chevrolet Silverado's engine lineup is easily the most impressive in the industry.

Let's take a look at it to see just how impressive.

The offering starts with an impressive 2.7-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The latter, which has been upgraded this year, now offers 310 horsepower and a staggering 430 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is also included.

In its case, its maximum towing capacity is 9,500 pounds.

Then, for those who like a powertrain capable of working hard and consuming less at the pump, there is the diesel solution that is still in the catalog. We're talking about a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder that's good for 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This time, we find a 10-speed automatic transmission as a link between the powertrain and the wheels.

Towing capacity here is 13,200 pounds, at best.

After that, we move on to the V8 engines. The debate begins with the 5.3-liter V8, an engine that offers 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission is also available.

With this powertrain under the hood, it's possible to haul around 11,100 pounds.

Finally, at the top of the hierarchy, a 6.2-litre V8 is used, a block that offers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine often serves the brand's higher-end models, so you have to climb the family to find it. It's also paired with the 10-speed transmission.

As you might expect, the towing capacity is pushed with this engine; it reaches 13,200 pounds.

The beauty of it all is that there are no bad choices. The powertrains are all reliable and proven.
